Micro Satellites

Missions

Micro satellites enable a cost-effective means for the conduction of university space experiments, the qualification of small hardware and the improvement of hands-on education within the student curriculum. We are currently working on the realization of a 2U- Cubesat mission aiming at a mission launch in 2018.

Components

In conjunction with our satellite missions we develop micro satellite hardware. Currently we are working on a sensor measuring thermo-optical degradation of surfaces in space. The degradation rates are of high interest with respect to the design of thermal control systems, since any change in optical properties influences the thermal budget of a satellite. Since laboratory tests of these material properties are time-consuming and lead to considerably high costs, we intend to demonstrate that in-situ tests with cubesat technology offer a cost-effective and highly flexible means for surface degradation experiments.
