Bremen is one of Europe's major space centers. Internationally renowned research institutes, scientific organizations and global players in space industry form an outstanding and extensive space cluster. Specialists from around the world are drawn to our City of Space. As an answer to the ever-rising demand for highly trained engineers and scientists in research institutes and space industry, the University of Bremen offers the international Master's Program in Space Engineering
With the Cluster of Excellence “The Martian Mindset – A Scarcity-Driven Engineering Paradigm”, the interdisciplinary research team of the University of Bremen is embarking on a mental journey to Mars. At the heart of this lies a fundamental question: How can life thrive under conditions of extreme resource scarcity – on a planet where air, water, fossil fuels, and raw materials cannot be taken for granted? This approach challenges us to question long-held assumptions about how we use resources on Earth and to rethink them from the ground up. The goal is to advance the green transition by developing ideas for: low-energy processes, closed-loop systems, manufacturing methods for resource-efficient, "enough-to-use" components, and a way of life that achieves more with less. 3, 2, 1 ... Lift-off for your experiment: The REXUS/BEXUS program takes students out of the lecture hall and brings them onto the launch pad of the Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden. Each year, student teams from universities and higher education colleges across Europe have the opportunity to carry out their own scientific and technological experiments on research rockets and balloons. The program is realised under a bilateral Agency Agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
