ASCENT

The ASCENT project is a student project with the aim to develop a simulation framework to simulate the aerothermal heating and flow interactions during the ascent of sounding rockets to support the development of sensitive payloads. The framework is based on a CFD solver and aims at simulating the fluid flow and interactions including CHT with the rocket body for streams up to MACH 7. It will use trajectory information and parameterized geometries as input parameters and will output pressure distribution and heatflux at the rocket hull. The goal is to include automated meshing features to allow the use of the tool for engineers or payload developers with little experinece in CFD.
