Hybrid rocket engines are a propulsion technology that has be known for many years, but has unfortunatelly not found its way into many applications yet. This is despite its increaed safety, low complexity and high performance when compared to solid and liquid propulsion systems. Research in this area focuses on improving the current know how, to further improve these very interesting propulsion systems. more...more...

Liquid monopropellant engines have been used in almost all space applications for many years. In these systems the classical propellant hydrazine is injected into a catalyst bed and decomposes to produce hot exhaust gases. The advantages include robustness and reliability. However, the propellant is problematic as it is highly toxic and carcinogenic. more...more...

Current in space storable propellants are often very toxic and carcinogenic liquids, such as hydrazine. These require significant safety procedures when preparing and the space system on the ground and complicate handling. The research here focuses on testing alternatives and ascertaining their performance for space applications. more...more...
