High Performance Computing - ZARM Cluster / HLRN

Juan Gomez

Numerical simulations of compressible, transient turbulent flows demand often high computer resources. The Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity ZARM disposes to this end over its own Linux Cluster used, amongst others, for numerical simulations with the CFD Toolbox OpenFOAM. The ZARM linux cluster consists of 28 computing nodes with two Quadcore processors each, providing a total of 224 cores for numerical simulations and enabling the study and three-dimensional modeling of complex thermo-fluid dynamic problems.

In addition, the group thermofluid dynamics cooperates with the North-German Supercomputing Alliance HLRN, which operates a supercomputer system hosted at Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin (ZIB) and at Leibniz University IT Service (RRZN) at Leibniz University Hanover. Access to the HLRN supercomputer enables the numerical modeling of highly compute-intensive problems through high spatial parallelization of the simulations.
