Laser Diagnostics have been proven to be an important tool to investigate combustion fundamentals. Applying laser diagnostic systems to combustion machinery like internal combustion engines, furnaces, boilers and gas turbines supported the understanding of operational problems and assisted its optimization.
Applying such tools to microgravity research facilities faces new difficulties. These are, to make it robust, small and of low power consumption, simple in use, applicable to many questions and of high repetition rate.
